A 28 year old Portugese fighter injured in an Mixed Martial Arts fight in Dublin on Saturday night has died in hospital.
João Carvalho was critically injured in the fight against Ireland's Charlie Ward at the National Stadium.
Carvalho was brought to Beaumont Hospital after the third round. Its understood about 20 minutes after the fight he began to feel unwell and was brought to hospital.
IMMAF President, Kerrith Brown says the organisation is in the process of gathering information onS aturday's fight. He says they await the outcome of the official medical reports. He says "In the meantime we cannot comment further on this isolated and very sad incident, other than to say that we offer our support.”
Carvalho suffered a brain injury and was pronounced dead at 9:35 last night.
