Gardaí in Waterford investigating a fatal stabbing in the city this morning want to speak to two young women.

They are appealing to them to come forward as they had been in Johns Lane at the Park Lane Apartments between 3am and 4am where the incident took place.

The 28-year-old man had stab wounds and was pronounced dead at University Hospital Waterford.

A 35 year old man was arrested nearby.

A member of the public alerted Gardai that a man had been seriously injured on New Street. 

A 35 year old man was arrested nearby and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Waterford Garda Station.

The victim was taken to University hospital Waterford where he was pronounced dead.
