400 jobs to be created in Co Meath

400 new jobs are being created at a biotechnology company in Co. Meath.

Shire is to build a new state of the art plant at Piercetown, a 120 acrce site near Dunboyne as part of plans to expand its Irish manufacturing capacity over the next four years.

The company, which develop medicines to treat rare diseases, already has a small operation at City West in Dublin.

Construction bill begin later this year and Shire expects the Co. Meath plant to open in 2019.

The company says todays announcement represents an invrstmant of US$400 million.

The roles at Shire’s new campus in Co. Meath will be skilled, full time jobs in the areas of R&D, operations, technical staff, engineering and construction.
