A 41-year-old man from France is being questioned by police after "what appears to be a firearm" was discovered at Gatwick Airport.

The North Terminal was evacuated this morning after a man was apparently seen discarding a suspicious item.

Police have now reopened the airport's North Terminal after bomb squad experts carried out a small controlled explosion.

The suspect, from Vendôme in France, was allegedly seen putting items in a bin.
