Love is in the air - one year on from the Marriage Equality referendum - as more than 412 same sex couples have got married.

New figures from the Department of Social Protection show most gay couples got hitched in Dublin - with more than 200 weddings in the capital.

There were 43 same sex marriages in Cork, and 25 in Limerick.

Demand for marriage celebrants has also doubled, with 400 weddings expected this year for the organisation Marry Me Ireland - and a fifth of those will be gay couples.

The number of celebrants have also doubled to keep up with demand - with 42 currently on their books.

On one Saturday this July, 14 celebrants will be joining couples in matrimony.
