A fourth person has appeared in court charged in connection with a serious New YearÂ’s assault in Tallaght that led to the death of 20 year old Dale Creighton.

James Reid (23), a student from Homelawn Avenue in Tallaght, is accused of producing a knife in the course of a dispute.

Dale Creighton suffered head injuries after he was attacked by a group of people at a footbridge on St DominicÂ’s Road in Tallaght at around 4am on New YearÂ’s Day.

He was placed on a life support machine at Beaumont Hospital but died yesterday afternoon.

Gardai say the assault was captured on CCTV.

Garda Brian OÂ’Connor gave evidence at this eveningÂ’s sitting of Dublin District Court that James Reid was arrested at his home yesterday.

He was detained for questioning at Tallaght Garda Station and was charged this morning under S11 of Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

He was cautioned and gave no reply, the court heard.

Judge John OÂ’Neill said it was a very serious charge but there had to be a presumption of innocence.

He granted 2 thousand euro cash bail to the 20 year old on strict conditions.

James Reid has been directed to stay away from Tallaght and from his 3 co-accused who are charged with violent disorder.

All four have been remanded to appear at Dublin District Court on January 16th.

Gardai are still questioning another three men about the New Year's Day assault.
