The coalition is being urged to make government-funded services a jargon-free zone.

A petition with 5,000 signatures was handed in to government today urging state agencies to start using Plain English.

The National Adult Literacy Agency organised the petition.

It says Plain English means avoiding jargon, and using short clear sentences and everyday words.

The agency believes plain English helps people to understand their rights, and will save government resources.
