Over 50,000 people took to the streets to vent their anger over water charges.

The demonstration got underway at 2pm on Saturday in Dublin city centre and was organised by umbrella group The Right 2 Water Campaign, which includes Sinn Fein, People Before Profit and Community groups.

The protesters marched to Dail Eireann in Kildare St and back to the GPO on O'Connell St., where they were addressed by speakers.  Among those taking part were independent TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly.

Some of those taking part were angry over Tanaiste Joan Burton's comment last week that some protesters had been using expensive phones to film protests.

One sign read: "I'm not paying water charges.  I'm getting an iphone 6 instead."
