Seven beaches have been identified as having poor water quality, in the latest EPA report.
They include the Front Strand Beach in Youghal, South Beach, Rush, Co. Dublin, Ballyloughane Beach and Clifden Beach in Galway, Ardmore Beach in Waterford and Duncannon, Co. Wexford.
The problems, according to Irish Water, relate mostly to sewage discharges due to inadequate infrastructure.
It says projects are underway to bring the beaches up to the required standards - with some due to be finished by Summer.
