7 men arrested after Tipperary raid

Seven men have been arrested following an armed raid on a businessman's family home in Co Tipperary.

Three children aged under eight, were in the house in Killenaule at the time of the incident, along with their parents.

Five of the suspects were arrested shortly after the burglary, while two others were detained on the outskirts of Dublin.

Our News Correspondent Fergal O'Brien reports:At around 3 o'clock this morning, seven men, understood to be members of a Dublin gang, broke into a house in Killenaule in Co Tipperary.

Three children aged under 8 were in the property along with their parents, when the raiders forced their way in.

They took money and jewellery, as well the family's Kia jeep, before making their getaway.

A short time later at around 4.30 this morning, armed Gardai stopped a car near Naas in Co Kildare and arrested five of the men.

The two other culprits, who were driving the family's jeep, were detained at around 9am at Newland's Cross in Dublin following a high speed chase, involving a number of units, including the Armed Intervention Unit and the Garda helicopter.

The arrests were made as part Operation Fiacla, targeting criminal gangs involved in robberies around the country.

They seven men, aged in their 20's, are being held at various Garda Stations under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
