Eight million cigarettes have been seized by Revenue at Dublin Port.

The contraband, worth around €4 million, was found when officers stopped a Latvian truck which had traveled here on a ship from Rotterdam.

Detection dog ‘Casey’ uncovered the elaborate concealment of cigarettes hidden within the glazing spaces of window frames.  

The ‘Minsk Capital’, ‘NZ Gold’ and ‘Pect’ brand cigarettes are believed to have originated in Belarus.

The cigarettes seized at Dublin Port represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €3.6m. This is assuming that they would have displaced the equivalent full tax paid quantity of cigarettes.
