A new survey finds that 80 per cent of us will tell lies to avoid going out.

The research of 2 thousand people by Yelp Eat24 has discovered that FOMO - or fear of missing out - has been replaced with POMO - or pleasure of missing out.

The most common excuses to avoid socialising include being too tired and not wanting to spend money.

The US Time Use survey has also found that we go to an average of just four social events a month.

We also spend four times more time sitting in front of the TV, than we do hanging out with our friends.

That's an average of 2.8 hours a day watching the telly - compared with just 41 minutes a day socialising.
