An 80 year old man is being treated in hospital after a violent assault during a burglary at his home in south Galway.

It happened at around quarter to ten last night in the Kilchreest area.

The pensioner's wife is said to be traumatised.

The intruders stole a sum of cash.

Gardai are hunting the raiders.
