Nine protesters have been arrested after blocking the runway at London's City Airport.

The campaign group Black Lives Matter UK has claimed responsibility.

The protest has caused major disruption - with dozens of flights delayed and cancelled.

Just before 6 o'clock this morning police officers were called to London City Airport where nine protestors had locked themselves together on the runway

The Black Lives Matter UK group claimed responsibility for the protest saying it's aim is to highlight the effect climate change has on black people locally and globally

Scotland Yard is investigating reports those involved managed to get air-side by swimming across a dock.

Police say nine people have been arrrested on suspicion of aggeavated trespass, being unlawfully airside and breaking London City Airport byelaws

The protest has caused major disruption - with dozens of flights delayed and cancelled.

A number of flights to and from Ireland are affected - and passengers are being advised to contact their airline.

CityJet - whose flights are affected - is operating a limited number of services from Dublin and Amsterdam to London Southend Airport, with complimentary rail connection to London to facilitate passengers who were disrupted.
