A Day Of Celebrations For The Easter Rising

A parade in Belfast to mark 100 years since the Easter Rising has passed off peacefully.

A few hundred people took part in the march from north Belfast through the city centre before joining a larger crowd on the Falls Road.

Loyalist protesters were gathered on Royal Avenue close to the spot where two UDR men were murdered.

But a heavy police presence meant the city was essentially on lock down.

A state ceremony was held at Arbour Hill in Dublin, the location where 14 of the 1916 leaders are buried.

At the GPO, members of the Defence Forces raised the tricolour.

Thousands of spectators attended a commemorative event at Croke Park after the National Football League finals.

 James Connolly Heron, who's the Great-grandson of James Connolly, said we are fortunate to able to celebrate.
