Hungary's defence minister has reportedly called up volunteer military reservists to deal with the numbers of refugees arriving in the country.
Meanwhile the Greek coastguard says a five-year-old girl has died and as many as 13 migrants are missing off the island of Lesbos.
Thousands of refugees are continuing to arrive on the Hungary-Austria border.
