A newborn baby, found abandoned in Rathcoole, south county Dublin this afternoon, is in a stable condition in hospital.

Gardai received a report at around half past three this afternoon and a unit, as well as an ambulance, were despatched to the scene at Steelstown Road.

The baby has been rushed to Tallaght Hospital where her condition is described as stable.

Gardai say their inquiries are on-going.
