The Supreme Court Judge Adrian Hardiman has died suddenly. He was 65.
The Dublin born barrister sat on the Supreme Court since 2000
Chief Justice Susan Denham said she received news of his death with "great sadness and shock".
She described him as a man who neither "favoured nor feared any interest - and went about his work with great integrity, grit and dedication".
She added he was "a man who had made great and courageous efforts on behalf of those who sought justice.
He is survived by his wife the retired judge Yvonne Murphy and his 3 children.
