Paddy Jackson’s barrister has begun his cross-examination of a woman who claims she was raped by the Ireland and Ulster rugby player.

She also claims she was raped by his teammate Stuart Olding at Mr Jackson’s home in south Belfast in June 2016.

From Belfast, Courts Correspondent Frank Greaney reports:

Brendan Kelly, QC for Paddy Jackson, began by asking the woman about a series of text messages she exchanged with three friends a few hours after the alleged rapes.

She told them she didn't want to go the police because it would be a case of my word against theirs and they’d all have the same “fabricated story” about her being a "slut who was up for it”.

She told one friend “9 out of 10 rape cases don't get the guy done” and she told another she believed Ulster Rugby would vouch for their character and she’d just look like a stupid little girl.

Mr Kelly asked why she didn't tell them about a witness - a woman who walked in at one point.

She said she felt it was secondary because the girl didn't touch her and didn't have anything to do with it.

She was also asked why she didn't tell medical staff about Stuart Olding allegedly forcing her to give him oral sex and she said she didn't think it constituted as rape.
