The Independent Alliance is holding an emergency meeting this morning - amid reports that some members are not prepared to express confidence in the government.

The meeting comes ahead of a Dáil vote of confidence in Enda Kenny's administration, when TDs are being asked to express confidence at around 10:30pm tonight. 

As of now, based on a contradictory and confusing performance from Kenny last night, some independent ministers aren't prepared to do so.

The Alliance is meeting this morning to thrash out those concerns and decide a common position.

However two of its members have already been seen in hushed discussion with a senior Fine Gael minister, in an effort to keep back-channels open.

Meanwhile Fine Gael's parliamentary party is also due to meet at 5:30pm - with the Taoiseach's performance, and future as party leader, set to be discussed.

Somewhere in the meantime the Cabinet, including the unhappy Independent Alliance ministers, will have to meet to rubberstamp the confidence motion that Enda Kenny has already tabled.

It will be a frantic day of briefing and meeting before the crucial vote in the Dail chamber tonight.
