An investigation is continuing after reports that Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Skylar Thompson suffered minor injuries in a mugging in Dublin on Friday night.
A spokesperson for the team says they're working with NFL security to gather further details about the incident.
The Steelers were in Dublin to play the Minnesota Vikings for the first regular season NFL game in Ireland.
Gary Gannon, Social Democrats TD and the Party's Spokesperson for Justice, says he was told to be positive when he raised concerns about safety in the capital:
"A spectre of violence hangs over Dublin City," he said.
Deputy Gannon says he raised it with the Justice Minister in the Dáil recently and was told to be more positive.
"I love the city, but there's no denying the fact that it not only feels unsafe for particular groups, it very clearly is unsafe."
