Gardai are appealing for the mother of a baby girl, whose remains were found at a waste plant in Wicklow yesterday, to come forward.

They say they will treat sensitively the case of a baby girl found dead at a recycling plant yesterday, and they're particularly concerned for the mother's well-being.

A worker at the Greenstar waste plant discovered the remains of the newborn baby girl at around 11 o’clock yesterday morning while sorting recyclable waste.

The baby was full-term and had recently been born, as was not wearing any clothing.

Greenstar takes waste from all over the country, so Gardai have issued a nationwide appeal for information about the mother.

It’s understood Gardai are approaching the matter as a personal tragedy rather than something more sinister.
