Appeal to Motorists After a 'Numerous Crashes'

Gardai are urging motorists to reduce speed and slow down.

It follows a series of crashes on a number of motorways yesterday.

Met Eireann are forecasting freezing temperatures and some heavy rain in the days ahead.

Garda Chief Superintendent Finbar Murphy has this advice for motorists driving on unfamiliar roads.

" built into these you'll also have a variation of weather conditions where there is some ice forecast, some low sun at this time of the year, that people mightn't expect when they come around the corner. So the key to reducing injuries in the event of somebody having a crash is to have your seat belt on, but above all to slow down."
