The man murdered in Co Kildare last night has been described by Gardaí as someone who wasn't involved in criminality.

50-year-old Clive Staunton was shot dead outside his home in Glen Easton Way in Leixlip at around 9.15pm.

Mr Staunton was a street trader, who had just returned from the soccer match at the Aviva.

He was a distant relative of the Hutch family, and Gardaí are investigating if his killing is linked to the ongoing Kinahan-Hutch fued.

The killer, or killers, may have escaped in a Volvo S40 car - which was later found in Co Wicklow.

Superintendent Gerry Wall of Leixlip Garda Station is appealing for information on the car.

"A gunman approached him and shot him and shot him on several occasions - and left him to die on the roadway outside his house.

"We are interested in the movements of a Volvo S40 car, who we believe may have taken the perpetrators to and from the scene.

"That car, or a similar car, was recovered last night in Manor Kilbride".
