The Director of the Abbey says the theatre is committed to putting on more plays written by women.
It follows a campaign called Waking the Feminists, sparked by the lack of women writers in the Abbey's programme for 2016.
Hundreds of women took part in an event at the Abbey this afternoon, calling for equality for female artists.
Juliette Gash reports;
Hollywood star Meryl Streep is the latest person to lend her support to a new campaign calling for equal rights for Irish women involved in the theatre.
It follows the publication last month of the Abbey Theatre's programme of plays for the 1916 centenary - only one of which was written by a woman.
Now a campaign called 'Waking The Feminists' is calling for action to be taken to give equal rights for female artists - including pay parity.
