More than 50 people are protesting outside a Cork-based facility for asylum seekers over poor conditions at the centre.

Residents at the Kinsale Road Reception and Accommodation Centre mounted a blockade outside the building and are blocking access to staff.

They are calling for the complete closure of the controversial direct provision system.

There's growing unease at the conditions in Ireland's reception centres and at the length of time that people are waiting to have their application for asylum processed.
