A baby girl with serious head injuries is fighting for her life in a Dublin hospital today.
The six week old is the suspected victim of an assault.
Gardaí have confirmed that a man was arrested earlier this week - but has since been released without charge.
Staff at Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin are today caring for the infant.
An incident is alleged to have taken place in the West last Monday the 30th of March, when the child was just 6 weeks old.
The baby girl was rushed to University Hospital Galway but later transferred to Temple Street due to the extent of her injuries.
A man in his twenties was arrested, but was subsequently released without charge.
A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
