Lawyers for Ian Bailey will today outline his action for damages against the state and garda authorities for alleged wrongful arrest.

The 57 year old former journalist based in Schull, Co Cork claims his life has been a misery for 18 years after gardai allegedly manufactured evidence against him for the murder of French film-maker Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

A jury of 8 men and 4 women were sworn in yesterday for what may be a 6 week High Court hearing.

Ian Bailey claims he was wrongfully arrested on suspicion of the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier – the French film producer who was found beaten to death by her holiday home in West Cork in 1996.

The High Court heard the 57 year old alleges gardai conspired to unlawfully manufacture evidence against him by procuring witnesses to say he was somewhere when he wasn't.

He also alleges gardai told the community he was guilty.
