Heavy rain tonight and strong to gale force winds are expected overnight as we experience the tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo.

Met Eireann has a issued an orange and yellow weather alert for different parts of the country with a wind warning in place for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

Meanwhile, Aer Lingus says two flights into Heathrow Airport in London have been cancelled tomorrow due to strong wind conditions.

The airport has requested airlines reduce their flight schedule due to the anticipated high winds.

Two of the 13 daily flights between Dublin and Heathrow have been cancelled.

The airline says customers have been contacted and accommodated on alternative flights.
