Bedsits are expected to make a comeback next week.
It is reported today that the Housing Minister will unveil new plans to resurrect single occupancy rooms.
They were banned in 2013 because of poor standards.
It was reported earlier this year that Eoghan Murphy was considering their reintroduction as part of his efforts to review the Government's housing policy.
According to the Irish Times today, bedsits will be reintroduced as part of a package of measures to address the housing crisis - but with new requirements in place for minimum space, sanitary facilities and heating.
The plans are also expected to prevent landlords from asking for a deposit of two months rent.
