The US Ambassador is encouraging J1 students to stay in the US and find strength in one another, in the wake of the Berkeley tragedy.

Kevin O'Malley has writted to the thousands of students in the visa programme, urging them to stay strong.

Juliette Gash reports:

The American Ireland Fund has donated 100 thousand dollars to help those affected by the Berkeley balcony collapse.

The fund supports programs of peace and reconciliation, culture and education around Ireland.

There was a queue outside the Mansion House in Dublin today, as a book of condolence opened for the victims of the tragedy.

It comes as the parents of the Irish students who died are preparing to bring them home to be laid to rest.

Michael D Higgins was the first to sign a book of condolence this morning at the Mansion House in Dublin.

Helen Vaughan reports.
