The mayor of Berkeley says he would support a criminal investigation into how a balcony collapsed killing six Irish students on Monday night, if shoddy workmanship is found to be a factor.
Mayor Tom Bates says he will await the results of the investigation - which are due soon.
Seven Irish students remain in hospital in California - two are said to be in a critical condition - and the families of those who died will start bringing home their bodies this weekend.

Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates says they will pursue appropriate action once the investigation is complete, but he's cautioned against jumping to conclusions:
UCD is to hold a memorial service - in honour of those who died and were injured in Berkeley - later today.
Three of the students who lost their lives in the tragedy were attending the university.

The service will take place at one o'clock this afternoon in Belfield Church on campus.
UCD has opened an online book of condolences on its website.
