Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says he understands Gerry Adams' reasons for withholding the name of an IRA contact, who has knowledge of the murder of Brian Stack.
The Sinn Féin leader is refusing to give Gardaí the name of his contact, who has previously given deatils of the murder to the Stack family.
The family and other political leaders are calling on Deputy Adams to give Gardaí the name of his contact.
But speaking today, Bertie Ahern said that from his history of negotiating within the peace process, Adams had always assisted Garda investigations where feasible.
And he says there would be "implications" if Adams revealed the name:
