Gardai have identified a body found off West Cork on Monday as that of one of two Dutch friends who went missing when walking on the Sheep's Head Peninsula last Saturday.

Gardai are satisfied that the body found near Eskeraha on the Sheep's Head Peninsula on Monday is that of 33 year old Dutchman, Othman Rahmouni from Amsterdam.

He was visiting West Cork with his friend, Roland Deckers whose family have a holiday home in the area.

Confirmation of Mr Rahmouni's identity comes as searchers will assess the weather conditions in the area before deciding whether to search today for Mr Deckers.

The Coastguard which is co-ordinating the search operation decided to call off the search at 2pm yesterday when the weather deteriorate as winds began to strengthen.

Michael O’Regan of the Goleen Cliff and Coast Rescue unit of teh Irish Coastguard said they decided to call off the search after the sea starting breaking on the shoreline as they searched.

Earlier the Goleen Cliff and Coast Rescue Unit had shown both the families of Mr Rahmouni and Mr Deckers where they believed both men were swept into the sea on Saturday afternoon
