Boston Mayor Pours Cold Water On Hopes For Irish Deal

The Taoiseach's hopes of getting a deal for illegal Irish emigrants in the USA are limited, according to the mayor of Boston.

Marty Walsh says a deal for people of one country would not be acceptable to most people.

Walsh, whose parents are from Galway, was speaking after a meeting this morning with Enda Kenny at City Hall in Boston.

The Taoiseach is on a week-long US trip, culminating in a visit to the White House for the traditional Shamrock Bowl ceremony.

Enda Kenny said over the weekend that getting a special deal for undocumented Irish people in the US was "an absolute priority".

Despite pouring cold water on that idea, Mayor Walsh has commended the Taoiseach for putting the subject on the agenda when he meets President Donald Trump on Thursday:
