A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with falsely imprisoning the Tánaiste and one of her advisers during a water charge protest in Dublin.
Joan Burton and Karen O’Connell were allegedly trapped inside their car for hours as they tried to leave a graduation ceremony last November.
The boy facing two counts of false imprisonment was just 15 when he allegedly tried to stop the movement of the Tánaiste’s car as it made its way to a local church in Jobstown following a graduation on Nov 15th last. His case was adjourned until December.
Six others also appeared before the Children’s Court today. The youngest, who’s only 14, was joined by his mother and sister. He’s accused of throwing missiles at Gardaí.
A 16-year-old pleaded guilty to damaging the windscreen of a Garda car and using threatening language. He’ll be sentenced next month.
Three others, aged between 16 and 17, are charged with violent disorder, while the eldest, who’s 18, is charged with violent disorder AND criminal damage, and all of their cases will be back before the court before the end of the year.
