A 7-year-old boy is in a critical condition after a hit-and-run incident in County Cork.

The child was playing in Ballymacoda village near Youghal at lunchtime when he was struck by a car which failed to stop.

The boy was rushed to Cork University Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

A man is helping Gardai with their inquiries, but accident investigators are appealing for witnesses.
