Boy Who Suffered Severe Brain Injury At Birth Gets €17.8m

The High Court has approved a €17.8m final settlement to the family of a boy who suffered severe brain injury at birth in Kerry General Hospital.

It's the highest settlement on record.

Tadhg Costello, who’s nearly 11, has cerebral palsy and is totally dependent on others for all his needs.

It took nine years for the HSE to admit liability for a delay in his delivery and failure to treat his case as an emergency and it made an interim settlement of 2.8 million euro in March 2015.

Today, the High Court approved an additional sum of 15 million euro - that will be held and managed by the Court to be used for whatever care Tadhg needs for the rest of his life.
