A 4 year old boy has died after an incident at a swimming pool in Co Cork yesterday.

Ronan Kennedy from Templederry in Co Tipperary was found unconscious at the pool in the Quality Hotel in Redbarn yesrerday afternoon.

He had been on holiday with his parents and two brothers when it's understood he got into difficulty in the swimming pool.

Emergency services were called to the scene and he was rushed to hospital in Cork before being airlifted to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin, where he died.

Gardai have launched an investigation.

In a statement the hotel says they are deeply saddened to learn of Ronan's death.

"The hotel management and staff are very shocked and upset by this event and their thoughts are with the little boy's family.

 All relevant authorities have been notified and a full investigation is currently underway.

 A counsellor has been made available for guests and staff."
