It's claimed Ireland almost three billion euro a year worse off if the UK pulled out of the European Union.

The Economic and Social Research Institute says that figure would come from lost trade and increased energy costs.

Its research has found businesses in Northern Ireland and those along the border would be worst hit.

Associate Research Professor at the ESRI Edgar Morgenroth, says although the EU is Ireland's most important trade partner, the UK is still a significant export destination:
