Brussels lockdown remains in force

Brussels remains on the maximum security alert - level four - over fears several individuals with arms and explosives could launch a Paris-style attack.

Experts are reviewing the situation in the Belgian capital - which was put on lockdown yesterday.

An update is expected late this afternoon (1600).

Sky's Enda Brady is in Brussels - and says the streets are quiet with police and military vehicles guarding key buildings - and the underground system remains shut:
Belgium's Interior Minister says that security forces are searching for a number of suspects - including Salah Abdeslam, who's wanted for the Paris attacks.

Professor Rick Coolsaet (pron: Cool set) from the University of Ghent is an expert on radicalisation.

He says the job of monitoring militants who've returned from Syria has stretched the country's security forces:

There is no information available to the government that Ireland is a target for terrorists - according to the Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald

She says however that as a democracy, Ireland could be a target for Islamic militants.

It follows reports in the Sunday Independent that terrorists who fought for ISIL have returned to Ireland and are being monitored by Gardaí.

Minister Fitzgerald said that there is no information to suggest an attack on Ireland is imminent - but that gardai are aware of any potential threats:
