The Tánaiste says she wants a report into Martin Callinan's resignation as Garda Commissioner published 'as early as possible'.

But Joan Burton's accused opposition leaders of trying to politicise the Fennelly Commission's investigation into the matter.

Opposition leaders have accused Enda Kenny of misleading the public as he tries to avoid questions about the issue.

Their complaints come after a spokesperson for the Fennelly Commission could not cite any law which would forbid Enda Kenny from revealing whether he had given evidence, or if he was one of three people who had been recalled to give evidence a second time.

However the Government continues to assert that it would be an offence to disclose whether the Taoiseach was one of the people recalled.

The controversy comes ahead of the one-year anniversary of Martin Callinan's retirement, ahead of the revelation that non-emergency phone calls at Garda stations had been systematically recorded over several decades.
