The Simon Community has called for an emergency action plan to tackle homelessness, following release of the latest figures.
Department of the Environment figures, released overnight, show a total of 70 new families were recorded as homeless in the Dublin Region during July.
So far this year 60 new families have been made homeless each month.
3,285 adults used State-funded emergency accommodation nationally during July.
Niamh Randall of the Simon Communities of Ireland says the government's response so far is inadequate:
