A new report is recommending the use of symbols from various religions in classrooms, instead of banning crucifixes.

The proposal is contained in a progress report on the changing of the religious ethos in some primary schools.

It finds that the divesting of the schools from the Catholic Church, has not been as rapid as originally envisaged.
