A cabinet minister has said the HSE and CRC should do "whatever they can" to recover some of the payoff paid to Paul Kiely.
The former chief executive received a golden handshake of 740,000 when he retired - a payment criticised by a HSE report yesterday.
The report found that the agency had overpaid Mr Kiely by refusing to incorporate public pay cuts into his severance.
