At least 13 people have been killed in Russian strikes on Kyiv, and the surrounding region, overnight, with about 40 people injured.
Ukraine's air force says it shot down 145 of 168 Russian drones launched, as well as several cruise missiles, but none of the dozen ballistic missiles sent by Russia were intercepted.
In a post on social media, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had been preparing for a long time, 'combining different types of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, aiming to cause as much damage as possible to civilian infrastructure'.
Tomorrow, the 21st of August, has been declared a day of mourning in memory of the victims of the large-scale attack.
