A car, which is believed to belong to a man who went missing 18 years ago, has been discovered in Co. Fermanagh.

Michael 'Tony' Lynch went missing from his home in Clones Co. Monaghan in January 2002.

The 55-year-old's white Mitsubishi Galant was never located.

Earlier this year,  Gardaí began searching lakes in and around the border region to see if it had been submerged.

The searches were suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However yesterday something unusual was noticed in the water of Lough Erne, Co. Fermanagh by members of the public.

The locals were aware of the appeal for information regarding the disappearance of Mr. Lynch - who is originally from Fermanagh- and contacted Clones Garda Station directly.

A PSNI diving team searched the lake yesterday afternoon and recovered a vehicle, believed to belong to Mr Lynch.

Gardai say they will continue to work with the PSNI who are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
