Several car bomb explosions in the Syrian capital Damascus have killed at least eight people and injured 13 others.

State media claim police stopped two suicide attackers from detonating their vehicles, but another blew himself up after being surrounded.

It's thought the trio planned to bomb crowded areas in the city on the first working day after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
