Child and Family Agency defends practice of locking doors

The head of the Child and Family Agency has defended the practice of locking doors at a North Dublin facility for troubled teenagers - saying Crannog Nua did what any good parent would.

An inspection of the North Dublin facility by the Health Information and Quality Authority found that corridors were locked after 8 pm - breaching fire safety regulations and the children's human rights.

Responding to the inspection report - Gordon Jeyes said there was still a lack of places available for young people that need accommodation in secure Special Care units.

And speaking on the Last Word Mr. Jeyes said doors were locked for the protection of the teenagers;
