Fifty police crew and divers in Orlando are working to recover the body of a two-year-old snatched by an alligator near Disneyworld.

The two year old was paddling with his family at a lagoon at a Disney resort in Orlando when he was dragged into the water by the reptile.

Police in Orange County says it's unlikely he survived at this stage.

The boy's parents attempted to rescue the child but were unsuccessful.

Orange County Sheriff is Jerry Demmings:

A dive team, aviation unit and boats equipped with with sonar are involved in the search.

Nick Wylie is from Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Jeff Williamson from the Orange County Sheriff's Office says it's heartbreaking:

It's the third tragedy to effect Orlando in the past week after the murder of singer Christina Grimmie and mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in which 50 people were killed.

Disney has made this statement:

Everyone here at Walt Disney World Resort is devastated by this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family and we are helping the family and doing everything we can to assist them.

All resort beaches at Walt Disney World are currently closed.
